The Home Depot Government Relations office is seeking a Government Relations Intern for the Spring 2020 semester. This is an opportunity to contribute to the success of a corporate government relations team, and the 9th largest corporate Political Action Committee.

Gathering research and writing briefings on topics such as political campaigns, candidates, or legislative issuesAttending briefings relevant to The Home Depot’s legislative priorities at campaign committees, trade associations, or Capitol HillAssisting with The Home Depot’s Political Action Committee (PAC), including maintaining donor databases, organizing monthly mailings, and sending thank you lettersEvent planning and preparation (scheduling PAC member DC tours, fly-in support, etc.)Providing daily administrative support, including sending packages and mailings, and assisting with meeting and event preparationCompleting a long-term research project on relevant government relations, grassroots, or other issues facing our department and presenting it to the Government Relations team at the end of the internshipNATURE AND SCOPE
Typically reports to ManagerNo direct responsibility for supervising others.
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Job Requirements

Must be eighteen years of age or older.Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.Education Required: 
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.Years of Relevant Work Experience: 0 years

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in a Capitol Hill, government relations, fundraising, or related officeThe knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of coursework at the college level in a political science, business, economics, or related degree programOutstanding time management and organizationA history of working in retail or customer serviceBeing a self-starter and willing to help wherever neededKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
Ability to communicate issues and recommend solutions in a timely manner.
